PPC or SEO?
The honest answer: It Depends
Ads buy you leads this week. SEO earns them for years, but it takes months to get there. Which one makes sense comes down to your market, your margins and how fast you need the phone to ring.
- If a click costs more than a lead is worth to you, stop buying clicks.
- If you need calls next month, ads can carry you while SEO catches up.
- If you already own the top of the page organically, don't pay for traffic you'd get anyway.
- Whatever you run, track every call and form back to where it came from. Otherwise you're guessing.
We run Google Ads when the math works. When it doesn't, we'll tell you.
Google vs. Bing (and ChatGPT)
Google still handles the bulk of searches, and our call and lead data say it still owns the moment someone picks up the phone. Bing matters more than people think. It powers Microsoft Copilot's answers, and Bing Webmaster Tools now shows how often AI answers cite your site.
ChatGPT sends more identifiable traffic to our clients' sites than any other AI chatbot. A lot of those people end up on Google anyway before they call.
You don't need a separate plan for each one. They all reward the same things. Clear pages that answer the question, real reviews, consistent business info and a site their crawlers can read. We check Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools side by side so nothing slips.
SEO Basics, Minus the Fluff
What does Googlebot actually do?
It's Google's crawler. It reads your pages, follows your links and reports back. If it can't reach a page or can't make sense of it, nothing else we do matters. Clean site structure and good internal links fix most of that.
Is duplicate content bad?
It won't get you penalized, but it splits your chances. When two of your pages say the same thing, Google picks one, and it might not be the one you wanted. One clear page per topic generally wins. Google evaluates each piece of content for how different it is from its on-site peers, offsite competitors, and even previous versions of itself.
Do backlinks and PageRank still matter?
Less than the link sellers want you to think. For most local businesses, links are closer to a non-factor than a top-three factor, and most “link building” is spam with an invoice attached. Build something worth linking to and the links take care of themselves.
How do you pick keywords?
We go after what buyers type, not what's popular. Words like cost, near me, wholesale and supplier come from people ready to spend money. DIY and how-to traffic looks great in a report and rarely calls. We use Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends for the research, then our RankBank tracker checks how often you show up on page one for the searches that pay.
Search Console or Google Analytics?
Both, and neither one is enough. Search Console shows how Google sees you: what you show up for, how often and what's broken. Analytics shows what people do once they land. Neither tells you which leads turned into money. That takes call and form tracking tied to your CRM.
How does the Google Knowledge Panel work?
For a local business, that box on the right side of Google is mostly your Google Business Profile plus what the rest of the web says about you. Keep the profile accurate, keep the reviews coming and it mostly takes care of itself.
Do URLs and meta titles matter?
Short, readable URLs help. So do good meta titles, but Google cuts them off by pixel width, not character count, so the first few words do the heavy lifting.
How do I choose an SEO agency?
Ask who actually does the work, how they'll measure qualified leads instead of traffic, and whether you own your website, ad accounts and data. If the answer involves white label vendors or a report full of vanity metrics, keep looking.
Just starting a business?
Start small and real. A website that answers the questions your customers ask, a Google Business Profile that's filled out completely, and the habit of asking every happy customer for a review. Then build from there.
