What You Need to Know to Get Hired as a Front End Developer
It should go without saying, but we’ll say it anyway: You’ll need to have good design skills. Coding is great, but we like websites that also look nice. No template based site designs here, either. Everything is custom designed, so you can really push your creativity.
As far as educational background, we look for candidates with a BS in computer Science, Web/Mobile Development, or Visual/UX Design. On the skills side, you’ll need to be able to write code—specifically, the three languages web browsers understand:
- HTML 5
- CSS 3
- Javascript
Additionally, it would help to know:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Responsive web design
- CSS preprocessors (such as Sass and Less)
- Familiarity with build systems (with Gulp or Grunt, for instance)
There’s plenty more you’ll need to know as you progress in your career, but having a good command of the basics outlined above will get your foot in the door. We’ve done very well bringing up talent with just foundational skills.
To succeed at iNET Web, you also need to be able to get along with others and have a good work ethic.
