Frequently Asked Questions About Working as a Web Developer in Milwaukee
Whether you're an aspiring web developer, an experienced one, or making the transition from web designer to developer, you probably have questions about working in the Milwaukee market. Like these, perhaps:
How Hard Is it to Get a Job as a Web Developer in Milwaukee?
The answer to this question depends a lot on your level of experience. If you are fresh out of school, or a self-taught developer, you’re going to have a tougher job search than someone with a few years of experience. This is because there is a pretty steep learning curve with entry-level developers, whereas an experienced web developer can generally be counted on to be productive from day one.
Although it can be hard landing your first job as a web developer, it’s not an impossible task. iNET Web, for instance, will occasionally hire entry level web developers. Unfortunately, we have too much work going on to make this a regular practice. If you really want to work here, though, apply for a job with us.
Don’t feel disadvantaged if you didn’t attend a college or university. Web development is a field open to people with all backgrounds, including those who taught themselves using online resource and those who attended a "boot camp" type school. Ultimately, only one thing matters: Can you do the work?
For those with some experience (and a solid track record), the good news is that finding a job is usually pretty easy. There is a growing demand for web developers throughout the Milwaukee area, and in addition to the usual agency/web development firm jobs many businesses now have their own internal web development staff.
How Much Do Web Developers Earn?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for a web developer in 2016 was $31.79/hr ($66,130 per year-- not bad for a job you can get with only an Associate’s degree. Although salary numbers vary a little depending on which source you’re looking at, the mid-60 thousand range seems to be the consensus. And it’s worth noting this is well above the $35,540 median annual wage of all occupations.
What about the future? It looks pretty rosy, too. In 2014, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projected a 27% increase in job opportunities for web developers from 2014 to 2024, a growth rate well above the paltry 7% average for all occupations. It’s even better than the growth rate for other computer occupations (12%). So, whether you’re an aspiring web developer or an experienced one, you’re in the sweet spot.
Is iNET Web a Good Place to Work?
We think so. If you’re looking for a place where you’ll be able to work on websites for a wide range of businesses, be challenged on a daily basis, and have the opportunity to advance quickly based on your contributions to our clients’ profitablility, you definitely want to consider iNET Web.
iNET Web is different from most web development companies. You have a much higher degree of autonomy here than at the typical web development firm or agency. Also, there's no corporate bureaucracy to deal with and no time-sucking meetings scheduled by people who seemingly have nothing better to do. (Full disclosure, we have one regularly scheduled meeting per month and there are short huddles every now and then with the teams working on a given project.)
If you’re looking for a place to goof off, though, this isn’t the place. There’s no foosball table, no employee lounge and no hour-and-a-half lunches. Here, it’s all about the work. We come in, we make the magic happen, and we leave at a decent hour. This is something you’ll appreciate if/when you have a family, or if you just enjoy having a life outside of work.
